What in the world...? This miniature toleware cabinet was a mystery, but it was so cute that I had to have it in the collection. With its unusual open back and abbreviated height, I had never seen anything like it and wasn't sure exactly what is could have been used for.

Discovery! It's a plate warmer! This museum-worthy antique would be set in front of the hearth with dinner plates placed inside, The open back allowed the heat from the hearth in and the metal rods across the back kept the plates from falling out into the fire or on to the floor.

The beautiful toleware style around the top and front made it a lovely piece that was both functional and decorative.

This is a fun rare find, for sure!
